First, the New York Post went and got guys (and some girls) all around the world excited about the prospect of Natalie Portman appearing nude in the forthcoming film ''Goya's Ghosts,'' a biopic about the Spanish painter Francisco Goya. Then, TMZ.com deflated those rumors today by reporting that the Post got it wrong and Portman will indeed be keeping her clothes on for the entire length of the movie. Oh, well, guys (and gals)... maybe next time.
While I certainly wouldn't be opposed to seeing Natalie Portman naked -- I was a little annoyed that our local paper had a blurb that essentially said: Natalie Portman to bare all in new film. There was no article -- that was it.
I felt a little like it had devolved into tabloid idiocy at that point. It seems like someone could write a great article about naked vs. nude and actresses who agree to be naked (or nude) for a role and what it takes to make that choice.
Instead -- it was dropped down to the level of masturbatory wishful thinking.
(That's not to say that I expect much more from the KC Star.)
You're right, Brian. Once the rumor got started, it just took on a life of its own, as these types of "wishful thinking" things do in the entertainment world. I actually heard the Nude Natalie "news" through two big sources who more-or-less reported it with various details and as a done deal: the New York Post and TV Guide Online. Some of the fairly unknown (in comparison) outfits, like TMZ, are great on these occasions because they often have a knack for "debunking the myths."
Further proof that there is a god and he, indeed, hates me...
LOL
I don't get the Portman thing, sure, she's attractive, but her body isn't some miracle of nature, plenty of similar bodies have been nude in movies, I'm sure.
Now, if we were talking Scarlet Johansen, or Jessica Alba, things might be different.
You could yodel in their ears for a nice echo, though. I can't watch Closer and not fall in love with her...
I haven't seen Closer, but to second Obleo's comment...
Fluent in Hebrew and English with conversational ability in a smattering of other languages (including Japanese), Portman also attended top Ivy League institution Harvard University, where she graduated with a degree in Psychology in 2003.
Feel free to see the 9 other "Beautiful Women Who Are Way More Intelligent Than You".
I'm not sure how anyone can fall in love with any character from Closer. Sure -- she was the -least- @!$%#ed up character but that's like discussing the "least" smelly turd.
(By the by -- I really enjoyed the movie.)

I've got a penchant for strippers.
Steve -- Great link. I was kind of surprised to see that it hadn't been seeded, so I filled that gap.
